For some bike racers, just the name Paris-Roubaix itself inspires fear like no other one-day bike race on earth. For others, Paris-Roubaix is the only one-day bike race that matters. A six hour maelstrom of mud, rain, dust, crashes and jolting, lethally dangerous cobbles, Paris-Roubaix is the ultimate extreme in cycling. Nicknamed both “the Hell of the North” and “the Queen of the Classics,” there is no middle ground in this unpredictable, treacherous and deeply intriguing event. 2007 is a vintage edition. Swamped by his rivals in 2006, former World Champion Tom Boonen has an old score to settle with 2006 winner CSC's Fabian Cancellara, but CSC has more than one rider capable of winning in Roubaix. Veteran World Champion Paolo Bettini knows 2007 will be his last chance to flaunt the rainbow jersey in Roubaix’s legendary velodrome. To win, these riders have to tackle cycling’s last dinosaur, the one race of the year to wrench the sport back to its pre-tarmac roots, back to an era where sheer courage mattered far more than the latest technology. Paris-Roubaix: the bike race which time forgot. But can you afford to? Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. Approx 240 min
